afmusic Release # 048: ART NOIR - Silent green

Der Stuttgarter Filmkomponist Jan Weber, vormals Keyboarder bei IMPRESSIONS OF WINTER, hat mit seinem Projekt ART NOIR endgültig in der Dark-Ambient-Szene Fuß gefasst. Nach dem Debüt 'Flügel' und einer Co-Produktion mit Carlos Perón eröffnet der düstere und beatlastige Zweitling 'Silent Green' eine neue musikalische Dimension.

Der Opener 'Dark Temple' weckt Erinnerungen an die mutigsten Machwerke von LUSTMORD oder AH CAMA SOTZ. Düstere Ambientkollagen á la DELERIUM und RAISON D'ETRE ('Take the blue pill') werden von Ausflügen in andere Klangwelten aufgelockert - die Einflüsse auf 'Silent Green' reichen von "Heavenly Voices" ('Silent green', 'Brother of sleep') bis zur "Burleske" ('Mental').

Im Sieben-Achtel- oder Fünf-Viertel-Takt verbindet ART NOIR melancholische Melodien und brachiale Industrialsounds zu spannenden und entspannenden Gegensatzpaaren: Musik von kompromissloser Kraft trifft auf Gesang voll sanfter Sinnlichkeit. Gastsängerin Nadine Stelzer (ehemals IN STRICT CONFIDENCE) schafft auf mehreren Stücken einen wohlig-warmen Kontrast zu schaurig-schöner Kälte.

Das Album entwickelt so eine völlig eigene Atmosphäre, die einen bei jedem Hören auf andere Reisen mitnimmt. Am Ende ist es wie mit einem guten Film: Jedesmal, wenn die Scheibe im Player ist, entdeckt man neue Details, die einem vorher verborgen blieben.

'Silent green' erscheint am 12. Juni 2009 als umweltfreundliches Digipak (Pflanzenfarbe auf recyceltem Karton um ein Plastik-Tray aus wiederverwertetem Kunststoff) bei Danse Macabre und noch umweltfreundlicheres Downloadarchiv via afmusic.

Post Punk trifft Post Rock auf dem Zenit des Spannungsbogens zwischen Shoegaze und Show - Die Schweden LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE produzieren psychedelische Pop-Perlen im Dunstkreis von EDITORS, ELEFANT und ESKOBAR und ihr Debüt steht deren Veröffentlichungen in Nichts nach.

Schon vor einem Jahr haben sie - damals noch unter dem Namen SLEAZY ROMANCE - hierzulande aufhorchen lassen. In ihrer Heimat feierten Insiderkreise die Band schon damals als Schwedens Antwort auf INTERPOL: Dem Fünfer aus Uppsala gelingt der Spagat zwischen Schwermut und Leichtigkeit in mindestens ebenso eindrucksvoller Weise wie der New Yorker Genregröße.

Aus den Wave-Wurzeln von LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE wächst ein starker Stamm aus erdigem Rock, umrankt von psychedelischem Blattwerk. Die Baumkrone ragt weit aus dem Dark Wave-Dickicht heraus und bekommt so die Sonne, die sie braucht, damit die eine oder andere eingängige Pop-Blüte wächst.

Die Songs von LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE strecken sich der Sonne entgegen ("It would be fine") oder lauern im dichten Dickicht ("Psych"). Im Stile klassischer Singer-Songwriter erzählt Frontmann Johann große Geschichten von großen Gefühlen ("Song about love") und seine Band fängt sie ein - zwischen hypnotischen Gitarrenriffs und dominanten Drums.

Der Erstling der aufstrebenden skandinavischen Songfabrik erscheint am 19. Juni auf CD bei Danse Macabre und als weltweiter Net-Release auf afmusic. Die Vorabsingle enthält die potentiellen Hits "Smile that smile" und "Geldof". Die gibt es schon jetzt zum kostenlosen Download auf der Homepage des Labels: www.af-music.de. Dort kann man auch die 2008 unter dem Namen SLEAZY ROMANCE veröffentlichte EP der Band hören.

afmusic Release # 048: ART NOIR - Silent green

ART NOIR is a project of Jan Weber, the film composer and former member of IMPRESSIONS OF WINTER. Succeeding the debut `Flügel` and a co-production with Carlos Perón, the new record, called `Silent Green´, opens up to a new musical dimension.

The opening song, called `Dark Temple`, evokes memories of masterpieces by LUSTMORD and AH CAMA SOTZ. Dark Ambient-collages similar to DELERIUM and RAISON D´ETRE (´Take the blue pill´) are lighted up by journeys into different worlds of sound. "Heavenly Voices" (`Silent Green`, `Brother of sleep`) and "Burlesque" (`Mental`) are only two examples for that.

ART NOIR connects melancholic melodies to brute Industrial sounds: the powerful and marching music meets the tender voice of Nadine Stelzer (former member of IN STRICT CONFIDENCE). Her vocals contrast with the music and give it a warm and comfortable note.

The record develops a unique atmosphere by connecting music and vocals in this way. It takes the listener to new, unknown places. Listening to this record is like watching a good film: Every time you replay it, you will discover new details.

`Silent Green` is released on the 12th of June 2009 in an environmentally-friendly way, as the digipak is made of recycled paper and plastic. It can be purchased at the label Danse Macabre. The songs can also be downloaded at the site of Germany's first 'dark' netlabel afmusic.

Post Punk meets Post Rock highlighting the field between Shoegaze and Show – the swedes LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE produce psychodelic pop pearls like bands such as EDITORS, ELEFANT und ESKOBAR and their debut is just as good.

They already raised attention a year ago releasing an EP under the name of SLEAZY ROMANCE. In Sweden insiders celebrated this band as swedens answer to INTERPOL: the five guys from Uppsala manage the balancing act between melancholy and ease at least as impressive as the famous New Yorkers.

From the deep wave-roots of LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE grows a strong stock of solid rock, entwined by psychodelic leaves. The treetop grows far beyond the dark wave spinney and gets enough sun to blossom into a bright pop sensation.

LIGHT IN YOUR LIFEs songs are drawn to the sun ("It would be fine") or lurk in the dark ("Psych"). In the style of classicas singer-songwriters frontman Johann tells great stories of great emotions ("Song about love") which his band captures with hypnotic riffs and dominant drums.

The debut of this aspiring new scandinavian songplant is released on the 19th of june on cd on Danse Macabre and as a worldwide Net-Release on afmusic. The pre-release single includes the hits "Smile that smile" and "Geldof".
